It wasn’t until 1950 that the first world championship race was held in the United Kingdom at Silverstone, with the championship for constructors first taking place in 1958. The rules for a world championship had been laid out before the war, and was not formalised until 1947.

The first non-championship races were held that year. in 1946 after World War II, a new formula was agreed upon, which was a new set of rules that all participants’ cars would adhere to. The origins of Formula One lie in the European Grand Prix Motor Racing competition from the 1920’s and 30’s.
